We are Ana and Nino, ceramicists, designers and close friends from Georgia. We are united by our love of clay and together we created the Ceramic Art brand.
Georgia is a country with a tradition of pottery dating back to the dawn of history. The first examples of earthenware date back to the Neolithic period (7th millennium BC). The huge variety of winemaking equipment and wine vessels found by archeologists attest to the high-skill of ancient Georgian artisans..
After graduating from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, we decided to work together. We always wanted to create craft works that would combine modern elements and traditional motifs. This is why we started our The City project themed around 19th century Tbilisi balconies.
Openwork wooden balconies are perhaps the most distinctive feature of Old Tbilisi houses. In the 19th century, Tbilisi was a multicultural city, mixing different architectural features from various cultural origins (Middle Eastern, European and Russian) amongst which the balconies are of specifically local character. Nowadays some balconies are in danger and in a poor state of repair. We made sketches of almost all traditional Tbilisi balconies and immortalized them on our products which include white ceramic mugs, plates and lanyards.
We are proud of the result of our project. It is very important to us that not only that the product is high quality and gorgeous but that it reflects and helps preserve our cultural heritage. Each work we create is unique.
Our work also includes a wide variety of other themes, including 19th century Georgian blue tablecloth motifs with zoomorphic (dear, stags, lions, fish, birds) and anthropomorphic images. We also create completely modern compositions. All of our products are dishwasher-safe.
